The nation’s largest protestant denomination has formed a board to discuss changing its name.
The Southern Baptist Convention with 16.1 million members has experienced a decline in membership the past four years.
At their annual meeting, Convention President, Bryant Wright formed a committee to discuss the possibility of changing the SBC’s name.
Bryant said he felt that people were getting hung up on the word Southern and feeling it didn’t relate to them.
“There are not a lot of folks in New York City interested in going to a Southern Baptist church,” Bryant said. “Or in Cheyenne, Wyoming, or Boise, Idaho.”
The Convention regardless of what they decide to do, the word Baptist will remain in the name.

As long as their doctrine doesn't change, I don't see this as an issue.
